SN Unit 3: Discussing Living Situations

Lesson 2: Giving Commands: Objects in the Classroom

Standards

ASL1.IP1 Students exchange simple information in the target language, utilizing cultural references where appropriate. Students will: 

G. Give simple descriptions (e.g., introduction to size and shape specifiers, classifiers, adjectives). 

I. Ask questions and provide responses based suggested topics (e.g., yes/no and wh- questions). 

ASL1.IP2 Students demonstrate skills necessary to sustain exchanges in the target language. Students will: 

A. Initiate, participate in, and close a brief exchange (e.g., turn taking and dialogue). 

B. Demonstrates SLPI Novice + to Survival or ASLPI Level 1 to 2 proficiency.

Learning Target(s) related to the standard(s)

  • I can tell others how to place objects in specific locations

  • I can use the grammar structure- Location + Object + Person + Action

  • I can use my non-dominant hand to establish a reference point and sign the action

  • I can use non-manuals (eyebrows raised) to name a location and/or object

  • I can modify the verb PUT to correspond to the action

Success Criteria

I know I’ve got it when I can give and follow directions to place objects in specific locations.

Remember to raise eyebrows when identifying the object and location to place it in.

Independent Practice: Your turn! I will put objects in places around the room. You tell me what I am doing. 

Group Practice:  Get in groups of 3 or 4

I will give your group a set of objects. Take turns in your group giving each other commands to place the objects in locations around the room. 

Be sure to use the structure we’ve practiced in class!
