Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standard/s:

Each content class will have daily assignments based on the standards associated with each content class. I push into the following classes:

1st- World History with Mr. Mangieri

2nd- Environmental Science with Mrs. McCann

4th- Physical Science with Mrs. Irby

Learning Target:

I can listen and understand the directions that the content teacher is giving. I can take notes and participate in classroom discussions.

I can complete assignments and turn assignments in on time.

Success Criteria:

I can successfully login to Google Classroom.

I will self-advocate and ask questions if I do not understand the content or assignment. See content teacher success criteria

Introduction/Connection: 

I will actively communicate and clarify directions to the EL learner.

I will check for understanding.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

If needed, I will pull ELs for small group instruction that will help develop his or her phonological awareness, content vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. (language proficiency)

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

I will model what the student should be doing during the work period.

I will discuss content and vocabulary that is needed for the work period.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

The EL learner will speak in English (as much as his or her proficiency allows and engage in academic discussions, complete assignments, and apply higher order thinking skills.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

I will check for completion of work, understanding of assignments, provide verbal feedback, and answer any questions the EL learners may have about the literal and connotative meanings of academic language in the particular content class.
