Glynn Academy FCCLA Members Olivia Coiner and Sydney Montgomery Featured in Article on YouthToday
Olivia Coiner, current president of Glynn Academy FCCLA, and Sydney Montgomery, former president of Glynn Academy FCCLA, are making significant contributions to a national movement aimed at reducing distracted driving crashes among teenagers by empowering passengers to speak up.
The initiative focuses on “passenger empowerment,” encouraging teens riding with teen drivers to actively help reduce distractions and save lives. According to recent data cited by national road safety advocates, car crashes remain the leading cause of accidental injury deaths for teens in the U.S. This new approach strives to broaden awareness and give passengers the confidence to intervene when they observe unsafe driving behaviors.
Olivia and Sydney have become vocal advocates for this critical safety message through their involvement with programs such as Teens in the Driver Seat and We Save Lives. Olivia, who currently serves as president of Glynn Academy FCCLA, urges teens to speak up when they feel unsafe, emphasizing that it is far easier to call for a ride home than to face the aftermath of an accident.
Sydney, a former Glynn Academy FCCLA president, shares the message that distracted driving impacts everyone in the vehicle, and passengers have a responsibility to help prevent crashes by speaking out.
Their leadership and dedication highlight the important role youth can play in driving cultural change around teen driving safety.
