Teacher: Lori Willis

Course/Subject: Modified Geometry

Date of Instruction: November 2-13, 2020

Unit: Similarity, Congruence and Proofs-Triangle Congruence Theorems

Lessons: Triangle Congruence: SAS, Triangle Congruence: ASA and AAS, Triangle Congruence: SSS and HL

Standards: MGSE9-12.G.CO.1-Know precise definitions of angle, circle, perpendicular line, parallel line, and line segment, based on the undefined notions of point, line, distance along a line, and distance around a circular arc.

MGSE9-12.G.CO.10-Prove theorems about triangles. Theorems include: measures of interior angles of a triangle sum to 180 degrees; base angles of isosceles triangles are congruent; the segment joining  midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and half the length; the medians of a triangle meet at a point.

MGSE9-12.G.CO.7- Use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to show that two triangles are congruent if and only if corresponding pairs of sides and corresponding pairs of angles are congruent.

MGSE9-12.G.CO.8- Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions. (Extend to include HL and AAS.)

MGSE9-12.G.SRT.5-Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures.

Learning Target- I can prove if triangles are congruent. I can prove the following triangle congruence theorems (ASA, SAS, SSS) using properties of rigid motion.

Success Criteria- I can use properties of rigid motions to determine whether figures are congruent and to prove figures congruent; I can prove triangles are congruent by ASA, SAS, SSS.

Introduction/Connection: Students will complete Warm-Up, Instruction, and Summary with the teacher, pausing each part for understanding and explanation. Students will complete example problems in each section with help from the teacher.

Direct Instruction: Teacher will review each lesson with example problems, having students come to the board to complete each problem. Students will be given a practice worksheet with problems from each lesson being covered on the Unit Test. Students will work with a partner to complete.

Guided Practice: The teacher will go over each problem on the board for students to work out together, checking for understanding. Students will add example problems to their cheat sheet to use as examples during the test.

Independent/Collaborative Practice/Differentiation:  Students will complete each Assignment and Quiz in the Lesson for the Unit (Triangle Congruence: SAS, Triangle Congruence: ASA and AAS, Triangle Congruence: SSS and HL). The teacher will answer questions when students need help. Students will use the cheat sheet they created during each lesson to help them answer the questions.(Modified to follow IEPs)

Summarize/Check for Understanding: Students will complete the Unit Test Similarity, Congruence and Proofs-Triangle Congruence Theorems in Edgenuity. The teacher will grade each test and check answers to see where students made mistakes and reteach those parts. Students will be able to retake the test if needed.
