Solving Equations

Standards:

MGSE9-12.A.REI.3: Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable including equations with coefficients represented by letters.

MGSE9-12.A.REI.1: Using algebraic properties and the properties of real numbers, justify the steps of a simple, one-solution equation.

Learning Targets:  I can solve multi-step equations.

Success Criteria: I can combine like terms.  I can use the distributive property to assist in solving.  I can perform inverse operations to isolate the variable.

Introduction/Connection: Daily 10

Direct Instruction:

  • Daily 10
  • Collect signed syllabus
  • Notes: Solving equations
  • Practice Worksheet 3.10
  • Give students time to finish graphing task.

Guided Practice: Students will solve given problems together.

Independent/Collaborative Practice/Differentiation:  Students will be allowed to work in pairs to complete the given assignment.  Students will reinforce understanding with Quizizz Game.

Summarize/Check for understanding: Teacher questioning, guided practice will be checked for accuracy and corrections will be made.

Homework: Finish Worksheet 3.10 if not complete, and IXL sections: K (J.4) Solve two-step linear equations.
