What
1st/2nd Honors Geometry Skinny
When
10/12/2022

Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.5 Prove the slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines and use them to solve geometric problems (e.g. find the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point).
MGSE.9-12.G.CO.12. Make formal geometric constructions with a variety of tools and methods (compass and straightedge): copying a segment; copying an angle; bisecting a segment; bisecting an angle, constructing perpendicular lines, including the perpendicular bisector of a line segment; and constructing a line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line.
MGSE.9-12.G.CO.13 Construct an equilateral triangle, a square and a regular hexagon, each inscribed in a circle.

Learning Targets /Success Criteria I can solve problems involving parallel and perpendicular lines.
• I can identify lines that are parallel or perpendicular.
• I can identify the slope of a line given a graph, two points or an equation of a line.
• I can determine the slope intercept form of the equation of a line given a line parallel or perpendicular to the given line.
I can construct the following using a compass and a straight edge:
• Perpendicular lines
• A line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line.
• An equilateral triangle inscribed in a square.

Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): Students will complete USA Test Prep handout below classifying lines as parallel, perpendicular or neither to other given lines.

Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
--Review bellringer
--Guide students in constructions listed above. Use MathOpenRef.com as preview to construction.

Independent Practice/Differentiation/Collaboration:
--Foldable, online web site video demo, one-on-one assistance for students needing help, provide more rigor for accelerated learners.
--students will practice constructions on attached w/s Construction of Parallel and Perpendicular lines

Resources: Mathopenref.com and IXL

Assignment: students will complete the following IXLs by Wednesday, 10/12 by 2pm:
--E5 Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (shortcut: 6K2)
--E6: Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (shortcut: VEB)
