MGSE.9-12.G.SRT.2. Given two figures, use the definition of similarity in terms of similarity transformations to decide if they are similar; explain, using similarity transformations, the meaning of similarity for triangles as they equality of all corresponding angles and the proportionality of all corresponding pairs of sides.
Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
--I can identify the corresponding sides and angles of similar figures.
--I can set up ratio and proportions of corresponding side lengths and angle measures.
--I can solve problems involving similar figures by setting up and solving ratios and proportions and simplifying ratios.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer) students will complete back (#2-4) of Similarity/Geometric Relationships handout (attached below as Similarity Review).
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
--Review bellringer
--Review h/w
--Guided examples on Similar Polygons color by number--specifically #4, 14 (attached below)
Differentiation/Independent Practice/Collaboration:
--Differentiation; Foldable, cloze notes, graphic organizers, one-on-one assistance for struggling students, accelerated problems for more advanced students.
--Independent Practice/Collaboration: students will work in pairs to complete Similar Polygons color by number and work independently to complete IXLs listed below.
Summarizer/CFU: Students will identify and set up ratios and proportions to solve problems involving similar polygons.
Assignment: Students will compete the following IXLs due date TBA:
1) P1 Similarity ratios (shortcut BT7)
2) P2 Similarity Statements (shortcut UG8)
**P1 & P2 will be averaged as one grade**
3) P4 Side lengths and angle measures in similar figures (shortcut E2K)
