Standards Addressed: MGSE.9-12.G.CO.9 Prove theorems about lines and angles. Theorems include vertical angles are congruent, when a transversal crosses parallel lines, alternate exterior angles are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent.; points on a perpendicular bisector of a line segment are exactly those equidistance from the segment’s endpoints.
Learning Targets /Success Criteria I can solve problems involving parallel lines cut by a transversal.
• I can recognize and apply properties of the alternate interior angle theorem.
• I can recognize and apply properties of the alternate exterior angle theorem.
• I can recognize and apply properties of the same side interior angle theorem.
• I can recognize and apply properties of corresponding angles postulate.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): students will complete Angles_Parallel Lines w Transversal Practice.
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice
--Review bellringer
--Review whole group Similarity & Geometric Relationships handout reviewing angle pair relationships (specific problems as determined by students)
--Guide students in Lunch Lines task. Students will then work in collaborative pairs to finish. Review whole group.
--If time, guide students in slope graphic organizer (attached below).
Independent Practice/Collaboration/Differentiation
--Differentiation: foldable, color code congruent angles, provide one-on-one assistance for struggling students, provide material for accelerated learners, student-led review/teaching.
--Students will complete Similarity and Geometric Relationships (Lesson 1-3 w/s)
--Students will complete selected problems on Parallel Lines w/ a Transversal practice w/s.
Summarizer/CFU: Naming angle pairs: identify a pair of corresponding angles, etc.
Assignment:
1) Students will complete packet: Similarity & Geometric Relationship due date TBA
2) Students will complete:
--DeltaMath 1) Parallel Lines lesson & 2) Finding Slope lesson
--IXL E5 Slopes of Parallel and perpendicular lines (shortcut 6K2)
