MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.5 Prove the slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines and use them to solve geometric problems (e.g. find the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point).
Learning Targets /Success Criteria I can solve problems involving parallel and perpendicular lines.
• I can identify lines that are parallel or perpendicular.
• I can apply the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines
• I can identify the slope of a line given a graph, two points or an equation of a line.
• I can determine the slope intercept form of the equation of a line given: standard form, the slope and a point on the line, two points and a line parallel or perpendicular to the given line.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): TBA
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice
--Guide students in reviewing writing equations of lines given various information (slope & y intercept, two points, point and slope, and graph) using foldable (attached below)
--Guided/independent practice: students will complete #7-15 on Practice Worksheet: Writing Linear Equations (attached below).
--guide students in converting from standard form to slope intercept form (Standard form puzzle below).
Independent Practice/Collaboration/Differentiation
--Differentiation: Graphic organizers and foldables, one-on-one assistance for students needing help, provide more rigor for accelerated learners.
--Guided/independent practice: students will complete Practice Worksheet: Writing Linear Equations (attached below) or
--Students will complete Parallel and Perpendicular w/s (attached below).
Summarizer/CFU: finding slopes of various lines
Assignment: Students will complete:
