Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.5 Prove the slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines and use them to solve geometric problems (e.g. find the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point).
Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
I can solve problems involving parallel and perpendicular lines.
•I can identify lines that are parallel or perpendicular.
•I can identify the slope of a line given a graph, two points or an equation of a line.
•I can determine the slope intercept form of the equation of a line given a line parallel or perpendicular to the given line.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): Students will complete #13-15 on Practice w/s: Writing Linear Equations (attached below).
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
--Review bellringer
--Guided practice on writing equations of lines that are parallel or perpendicular to other lines using Writing Equations Parallel and Perpendicular half sheet and foldable (attached below)
Independent Practice/Collaboration/Differentiation:
--Differentiation: Graphic organizers and foldables, one-on-one assistance for students needing help, provide more rigor for accelerated learners.
