Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.SRT.4. Prove theorems about triangles. Theorems include: a line parallel to one side of a triangle divides the other two proportionally, (and its converse); the Pythagorean Theorem using triangle similarity.
MGSE.9-12.G.SRT.2. Given two figures, use the definition of similarity in terms of similarity transformations to decide if they are similar; explain, using similarity transformations, the meaning of similarity for triangles as they equality of all corresponding angles and the proportionality of all corresponding pairs of sides.
Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
--I can use the triangle proportionality theorem to find missing sides in triangles.
--I can identify corresponding parts of a triangle and set up a proportion to find missing side lengths.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): students will complete #1-8 on Triangle Similarity w/s #1 (attached below).
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice
--Guide students in completing foldable on triangle proportionality theorem (attached below).
--if time, start triangle proportionality w/s (attached below).
Independent Practice/Collaborations/Differentiation:
--Differentiation: Graphic organizers, one-on-one assistance for struggling students, accelerated problems for more advanced students.
--Independent practice: IXL P10 Triangle Proportionality Theorem (attached).
