Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.CO.8 Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions. (Extend to include HL and AAS.)
MGSE.9-12.G.SRT.5 Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures.
Learning Targets/Success Criteria:
1. I can prove two triangles congruent using congruence theorems such as SSS, SAS, AAS, ASA, and HL.
--I can identify congruent and corresponding sides.
--I can identify included and non-included sides.
--I can identify included and non-included angles.
2. I can complete a formal two-column proof to prove two triangles congruent.
--I can list, identify and mark given statements on two triangles.
--I can identify and mark vertical angles, reflexive property, alternate interior angles, definition of a bisector, definition of a midpoint and provide a correspondence statement that verifies those marks.
3. I can prove two triangles congruent using CPCTC.
Introduction/Connection (Bellringer): Students will complete Congruent Triangles Coloring Sheet (attached below).
Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
--Review bellringer
--Guide students in #4 on CPCTC handout (attached below).
Independent Practice/Collaboration/Differentiation:
--Differentiation: Foldable, cloze notes, graphic organizers, one-on-one assistance for struggling students, accelerated problems for more advanced students.
--Independent Practice: CPCTC handout, select pages in Honors Triangle Congruence (attached below)
Summarizer/CFU: TOTD.
Assignment: students will complete:
1) CPCTC packet (attached below)
2) Select proofs in Honors Triangle Congruence (attached below).
