SN Unit 5, Lesson 8: Talking About Activities with Others
Standards Addressed
ASL2.IP1 Students exchange information in the target language, utilizing cultural references where appropriate. Students will:
G. Ask questions and provide responses about plans and events (e.g., time markers, listing, and sequencing).
ASL2.CCC3 Students develop a better understanding of the English language through a study of the target language. Students will:
A. Compare vocabulary usage and structural patterns of the target language with English (e.g., conjugation of verbs and time markers)
Learning Targets
I can sequence activities involving time signs.
I can correctly use “LEAVE-FOR” and “GO-TO” in context.
I can use plural pronouns for groups of two or more people (rule of 9)
I can use “1” as a transition when discussing an out of the ordinary activity
Success Criteria
I know I’ve got it when I can sign about an activity by including the when (date/time of day), who, where (leave-for/stay) (place), and activities using FINISH to indicate order.
Introduction
DAILY 10: Deaf folktales/jokes in ASL: Summarize, explain the moral and why this story is significant to the Deaf community

Vocabulary Intro: Calendar Time Signs- One week ago, One week future, Weekend, Parts of the day (morning, noon, afternoon, night, all day, all night)
GROUP PRACTICE: Using Time signs and parts of the day in context
Plural Pronouns: 2-3 people and 4+ people
Activity signs: skiing, concert (music + listen), museum, sightseeing, birthday party, host party, visit grandparents, go to tavern & play pool
Plural Pronouns: 4+ people: us-all, us-four, us-five
Activity signs: beach, sunbathe, sightseeing, swimming, fs-CLUB, #SF, dance ++, enjoy, celebrate, music + listen, , watch basketball, amusement-park, ride-in, LCL:B (ride), fun
Whole Group Modeling/Practice- take turns selecting an activity, date/time of day, and group of people to construct ASL sentences using this structure: WHEN + WHO + WHERE + WHAT. (All students will model at least one sentence using the new vocabulary taught today.)
Grammar focus- Use of “1” as a transition word- Out of the Ordinary Activity.

Follow IEP accommodations as specified. Individualized support for all signers. Pair stronger signers with struggling signers to provide language models/assistance.
