Success Criteria
I know I’ve got it when I can use my known sign vocabulary, gestures, and non-manuals to describe a job I want to do, the location where it happens, and the tasks involved.
Introduction
DAILY 10: View & discuss Deaf folk story “The Candy Bar,” presented by Ben Bahan (Signing Naturally, 1st Edition, Unit 6- DVD). How did Bahan use non-manuals and body shift to convey the meaning of the story?
Direct Instruction
& Guided Practice

Video: Occupation Vocabulary Signs (see link on PowerPoint)
Model/practice signing together.

GUIDED PRACTICE: Students take turns at the front to sign/share about their past, present, and future occupations, following these prompts:
PAST ME WORK ____________. NOW ME WORK __________. FUTURE ME WANT WORK _____________. If student doesn’t know the occupational sign, he/she must act out the job’s tasks to see if classmates figure it out. Teacher will then explicitly teach the sign for that specific occupation.

If time permits, play review game- Around the World- with vocabulary taught this semester.

Differentiation
Follow IEP accommodations as specified. Individualized support for all signers. Pair stronger signers with struggling signers to provide language models/assistance.

Study unit 5 vocabulary and review notes- Unit 5 exam on Friday!
