Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.C.2 Identify and describe relationships among inscribed angles, radii, chords, tangents, and secants. Include the relationship between central, inscribed, and circumscribed angles; inscribed angles on a diameter are right angles; the radius of a circle is perpendicular to the tangent where the radius intersects the circle.

Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
--I can apply the following theorems when solving problems involving segments of chords/secants/tangents:
• If two chords intersect in a circle, then the products of the measures of the chords are equal.
• If two secant segments are drawn to a circle from an exterior point, then the products of the measures of the secant segment and its external
secant segments are equal.
• If a tangent segment and a secant segment are drawn from an exterior point, then the square of the measure of the tangent segment is equal to the
product of the measures of the secant segment and its external secant segment.

Introduction/Connection (Activator): students will complete an Open/Middle problem.

Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
--review Chord Theorems w/s
--in small groups, students will try to discover rules for segments in circles given w/s and answer key. Students with then try to articulate/identify theorems that will work for all problems.
--Introduce theorems with attached Segments in Circles graphic organizer.
--Guided practice: Segments in Circles foldable (attached).

Differentiation/Independent Practice/Collaboration:
--Graphic organizers, foldables, color coding lines/segments, one-on-one assistance for struggling students, accelerated practice for higher performing students, partner work, student-led teaching/review.
--Independent practice: Practice w/s.

Summarizer: TOTD
