Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.GMD.3 Use volume formulas for cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres to solve problems.

Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
LT: I can identify and name solids including: prism, triangular prism, cylinder, cone, pyramid, triangular pyramid, sphere.
LT: I can calculate the volume of a cylinder, pyramid, cone and sphere.
SC:
• I can identify the solid and use the appropriate formula to find the volume.
• I can identify dimensions of the base and height of a solid and use these to calculate volume.

Introduction/Connection (Activator): students will be given Volume Graphic Organizer (attached) and brainstorm formulas that they remember.

Direct Instruction/Guided Practice:
• Students will compare answers to activator with one other group.
• Guide students in completing Volume foldable (attached).

Independent Practice/Differentiation/Collaboration:
--Graphic organizers, foldable book, on-line practice, color-coding terms, cloze notes. One-on-one help for struggling students, accelerated practice for higher students.
--Independent practice: problems in foldable.

Summarizer: Correct mistakes update Volume Graphic Organizer with correct formulas.

Assignment: TBD: students will complete the following IXLs
--U3 Arc length (shortcut 7L9)
--U6 Area of sectors (XZQ)
