ASL2.CCC1 Students use information acquired in the study of the target language and information acquired in other subject areas to reinforce one another. Students will:
A. Give examples of historical perspectives of American Sign Language
ASL2.CCC5 Students develop and apply target language skills and cultural knowledge beyond the classroom setting for recreational, educational, and occupational purposes. Students will:
A. Develop and apply target language skills and cultural knowledge beyond the classroom setting for recreational, educational, and occupational purposes.
B. Illustrate how the target language and culture studied are evident in and through the media, entertainment, and technology.
I can demonstrate my comprehension of ASL vocabulary and grammar in context.
I will examine the life experiences of notable figures in Deaf History, namely, Helen Keller.
Daily 10
Videos/discussion answering these questions:
What is Deafness? What is Blindness? What is Deaf-blindness?
What is braille? What is the tadoma method? What is Pro-tactile signing?
“Helen Keller Experience”- Examining the challenges of being Deaf-blind and determining appropriate accommodations.
Simulation of Deafness, Blindness, and Deaf-blindness: Reflection & discussion
ASL 1: Watch “The Miracle Worker” DVD (Story of Helen Keller’s childhood) and answer film discussion questions.
ASL 2: Watch “Becoming Helen Keller” documentary & answer discussion questions
