Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.7 Use coordinates to compute perimeters of polygons and areas of triangles and rectangles, e.g., using the distance formula.
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.4 Use coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems algebraically. For example, prove or disprove that a figure defined by four given points in the coordinate plane is a rectangle (focus on quadrilaterals).
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.6. Find the point on a directed line segment between two given points that partitions the segment in a given ratio.
Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
I can use the distance formula to find the distance between two ordered pairs.
I can find the perimeter or area of a figure on the coordinate plane using the distance formula to find the length of the sides.
I can use the midpoint formula to identify the midpoint of a line segment.
I can use coordinates to identify the most specific name of a quadrilateral.
I can prove the a parallelogram has 2 pairs of opposite sides parallel
I can prove that a rectangle has congruent diagonals or that adjacent sides are perpendicular.
I can prove that a rhombus has four congruent sides or perpendicular diagonals.
I can prove that a square has congruent diagonals and congruent sides (or perpendicular sides).
I can find the point on a directed line segment that partitions the line segment into a given ratio.
I can identify the run (differences in x’s) and rise (difference in y’s) of a given line segment.
I can translate the given ratio to a fraction that partitions the line segment into the given ratio.
I can substitute these values into the formula to identify the ordered pair that partitions the line segment into the given ratio.
