Standards Addressed:
MGSE.9-12.G.GMD.1 Give informal arguments for geometric formulas.
a) Give informal arguments for the formulas of the circumference of a circle and the area of a circle using dissection arguments and informal limit arguments.
MGSE.9-12.G.C.5 Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector.
MGSE.9-12.G.GPE.1 Derive the equation of a circle given center and radius using the Pythagorean Theorem; complete the square to find the center and radius of circle given by an equation.

Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
LT: I can identify parts of a circle from the equation written in standard form.
SC:
• I can identify the center of the circle by taking the opposite of h,k.
• I can identify the radius of the circle by taking the square root of the constant.
LT: I can use the graph of a circle to write the equation of the circle.
SC:
• I can find the coordinates of the center.
• I can determine the length of the radius.
• I can use the center and the radius to write the equation in standard form.
LT: I can graph a circle on the coordinate plane.
SC:
• I can identify and plot the center.
• I can identify and use the radius to plot 4 additional points.

Learning Targets /Success Criteria:
LT:
--I can find the area and circumference of a circle.
--I can calculate arc length and area of a sector for circles.
--I can identify and name solids including: prism, triangular prism, cylinder, cone, pyramid, triangular pyramid, sphere.
--I can calculate the volume of a cylinder, pyramid, cone and sphere.

SC:
• I can find the circumference of a circle given the radius or diameter.
• I can find the radius or diameter of a circle given the circumference.
• I can find the area of a circle given the radius or diameter.
• I can find the radius of a circle given the area.
• I can identify the angle measure (degrees) for the sector or arc using arc and angle theorems.
• I can use the appropriate formula to solve for arc length or area of the sector given the problem.
• I can solve real world problems involving arc length and area of sectors.
• I can identify the solid and use the appropriate formula to find the volume.
• I can identify dimensions of the base and height of a solid and use these to calculate volume.

Independent Practice/Collaboration/Differentiation:
--students will complete assessment in Progress Learning covering: equations of circles, finding sector area and arc length, and calculating volume of solids and composite solids.
--differentiation: all accommodations/modifications as outlined in student 504s and IEPs.



Summarizer/CFU: prior to test review formulas for sector area, arc length
