High School Weekly Lesson Plan Template Week of: 5/8/23 *for additional curriculum information, please visit the district's resource High School Pacing Guides or Georgia Standards of Excellence Course Name: Modified Biology Monday Standard(s): 5a. Plan and carry out investigations and analyze data to support explanations about factors affecting biodiversity and populations in ecosystems. 5b. Develop and use models to analyze the cycling of matter and flow of energy within ecosystems through the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. -Arranging components of a food web according to energy flow. -Comparing the quantity of energy in the steps of an energy pyramid. -Explaining the need for cycling of major Biochemical elements (C,O, N, P, H) LT: I am learning about the importance of the nitrogen cycle and how nitrogen cycles through an ecosystem. SC: -I can determine the percentage of nitrogen in the atmosphere. -I can understand how nitrogen cycles through the soil and gets put back into the atmosphere. -I know which organism “fixes” nitrogen into a plant usable form. Lesson/Activity: -Nitrogen cycle notes (Fill in the blank) -Cycles Comparison Chart (Water, Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus) -Nitrogen Cycle Color By Number Activity (finish if time allows) -Unit 6 Kahoot Review Resources: Teacher created materials Kahoot Tuesday Standard(s): 5a. -Explaining the need for cycling of major Biochemical elements (C,O, N, P, H) 5c. Construct an argument to predict the impact of environmental change on the stability of an ecosystem. LT: I am learning about the importance of the phosphorus cycle and how phosphorus cycles through an ecosystem. I can describe the difference between primary succession and secondary succession. SC: -I can list where phosphorus is found in the human body. -I know that phosphorus does not cycle through the atmosphere. -I can describe the conditions for primary succession to occur. -I can describe the conditions for secondary succession to occur. Lesson/Activity: -Phosphorus Cycle Graphic Organizer notes -Complete Cycles Comparison Chart (Water, Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus) -EOC Practice Questions (Progress Learning) -Unit 6 Kahoot Review Resources: Teacher created materials Progress Learning Kahoot Wednesday Standard(s):5c. Construct an argument to predict the impact of environmental change on the stability of an ecosystem. 5d. Design a solution to reduce the impact of a human activity on the environment. (Clarification statement: Human activities may include chemical use, natural resources consumption, introduction of non-native species, greenhouse gas production) LT: I can describe the difference between primary succession and secondary succession. I am learning about human impact on the environment. SC: -I can describe the conditions for primary succession to occur. -I can describe the conditions for secondary succession to occur. -I can list ways that humans impact the environment (HIPPCO) -I can give real world examples of how humans impact the environment (ex-lionfish in Florida waters) Lesson/Activity: -Ecological Succession notes (Primary vs. Secondary) -Moana Clip - Primary Succession -Primary vs. Secondary Succession Poster -Unit 6 Kahoot Review Resources: Teacher created materials Kahoot Thursday Standard(s): 5d. Design a solution to reduce the impact of a human activity on the environment. (Clarification statement: Human activities may include chemical use, natural resources consumption, introduction of non-native species, greenhouse gas production) 5e. Construct explanations that predict an organism’s ability to survive within changing environmental limits (e.g., temperature, pH, drought, fire) LT: I am learning about human impact on the environment. I can describe how organisms survive in changing environments. SC: -I can list ways that humans impact the environment (HIPPCO) -I can give real world examples of how humans impact the environment (ex-lionfish in Florida waters) -I can list various ways that environments may change (ex-fire, drought, temperature, light, pH) -I can give an example of how a specific organism survived an environmental change. (ex-changes in temperature lead to bears hibernating) Lesson/Activity: -Primary vs. Secondary Succession Matching Activity -HIPPCO Gallery Walk -Review HIPPCO -Surviving Change Graphic Organizer -EOC Practice Test Resources: Teacher created materials EOC Testing Resources Friday Standard(s): ALL LT: I will pass my Biology EOC. SC: ALL Units Lesson/Activity: -Unit 6 Review Packet -Review games ALL units (Kahoot, Gimkit, matching envelopes) -EOC Practice Test Resources: Teacher created materials Kahoot, GimKit
