Teacher : Robert Smith Course/ Subject: Art Comp / Intro Art Date of Instruction: 01/04/24 Opening (I Do) An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson. TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10 Standard/s: VAHSVA.CR.4 Incorporate formal and informal components to create works of art. a. Use principles of design to organize elements of art to create unified compositions. VAHSVA.CR.3 Engage in an array of processes, media, techniques, and technology through experimentation, practice, and persistence. a. Demonstrate a variety of skills and techniques for two-dimensional and three dimensional works of art. b. Demonstrate quality craftsmanship through proper care and use of tools, materials, and equipment. c. Utilize and care for materials, tools, and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Learning Target: I can identify the elements and principles of design in the environment and in works of art I incorporate formal and informal components in works of art I recognize the role of shape in design I can apply shape in works of art through a variety of techniques and media Success Criteria: I identified the elements in the environment and in works of art with an emphasis on the role of shape I incorporated by formal and informal components in works of art through the use of shape I created a series of drawings the emphasized the visual component shape Introduction/Connection: Review the following terms Elements of Design - the foundation of all visual design. These building blocks consist of line, shape, form, texture, space, value and color. Shape - Shape is an area that is contained within an implied line, or is seen identified because of color or value changes. Shapes have two dimensions, length and width, and can be geometric or freeform. Design is basically the planned arrangement of shapes in a work of art. Geometric Shapes - figure or area closed by a boundary which is created by combining the specific amount of curves, points, and lines. Different geometric shapes are Triangle, Circle, Square, etc. Organic Shapes - shapes that are irregular or asymmetrical in appearance and tend to have a curvy flow to them. Nearly all shapes found in nature are organic in appearance. DIRECT INSTRUCTION: The teacher will identify examples of the formal design elements and in the environment The teacher will identify examples of the formal design elements in art The teacher will identify the role of shape in the environment The teacher will identify examples of the use of shape in visual design. (See the video link on the calendar for an overview of the lesson) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzyQ8gt7oDs Work Period (We Do, You Do) Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10 GUIDED PRACTICE: Shape Drawing Exercises The student will complete a series of shape based drawings The student will create a series of geometric shapes The student will render a series of organic / freeform shapes The student will produce a series of abstract shapes The student will produce symbolic shapes These will be incorporated into a shape based composition where the shapes are emphasized in the design INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Creativity Exercise Students will create a series of drawings that illuminate the use of the elements of design. Students will recognize and apply a variety of shapes in the a shape composition Closing (We Check) Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding . TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8 SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Complete a shape composition that recognize the elements of design in the surrounding environment and works of art Informal evaluations of both emerging and completed shape compositions
