Teacher : Robert Smith Course/ Subject: Art Comp / Intro Art Date of Instruction: 01/05/24 Opening (I Do) An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson. TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10 Standard/s: VAHSVA.CR.4 Incorporate formal and informal components to create works of art. a. Use principles of design to organize elements of art to create unified compositions. Learning Target: I can identify the elements and of design in the environment and in works of art I incorporate formal and informal components in works of art I recognize the role of value and form in design I can apply value and form in works of art through a variety of techniques and media Success Criteria: I identified the elements in the environment and in works of art with an emphasis on the roles of value and form I incorporated by formal and informal components in works of art through the use of value and form I created a series of drawings the emphasized the visual components of value and form Introduction/Connection: Review the following terms Elements of Design - the foundation of all visual design. These building blocks consist of line, shape, form, texture, space, value and color. Value - refers to dark and light; the value scale refers to black and white with all gradations of gray in between. Value contrasts help us to see and understand two-dimensional works of art. Form: Shape and form have the same qualities except shape is two-dimensional and form is three-dimensional; it describes volume and mass. Both may be organic or inorganic, freeform or geometric, natural or man-made. DIRECT INSTRUCTION: The teacher will identify examples of the formal design elements and in the environment The teacher will identify examples of the formal design elements in art The teacher will identify the role of value and form in the environment The teacher will identify examples of the use of value and form in visual design. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10 GUIDED PRACTICE: Shape Drawing Exercises The student will complete a value based drawing These will be incorporated into a form based composition where value is used to create the illusion form. INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Creativity Exercise Students will create a series of drawings that illuminate the use of the elements of design. Students will recognize and apply value in a composition Value will be used in the drawing to create the illusion of form Closing (We Check) Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding . TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8 SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Complete a value and form composition that recognizes and applies the elements of design in the surrounding environment and works of art Informal evaluations of both emerging and completed shape compositions
