Standard: First and Second Derivative Test

Learning Target: I can use the first and second derivatives to learn things about the original function, i.e. concavity and inc/dec.

Success Criteria: I can take a derivative with derivative rules. I can simplify expressions. I can determine where a function is inc/dec/concave up/concave down.

Introduction/Connection: What do you think we could use the first and second derivative tests to tell us in the real world?

Direct Instruction: Students will work in collaborative pairs to complete a packet of 5 WS. Some are old AP questions and others are from another textbook.

Guided Practice: Teacher will observe students to gauge understanding and move around the room and help with

Independent/Collaborative Practice/Differentiation: scaffolding throughout lesson; application problems

Summarize/Check for Understanding: Students summarizes LT and SC

We will be going over the packet from Friday
