Introduction/Connection:
Review the following terms
19th Century European Art
Academy - An institution whose main objectives include training artists in an academic tradition, ennobling the profession, and holding exhibitions
Avante Garde - an innovative group of artists who generally reject traditional approaches in favor of a more experimental technique.
Impressionism - 19th century French artists who worked in plein-air on small, brightly colored canvased capturing the effects of light on their surrounding environment
Neoclassicism - an art movement in 19th century France that embraced classical subjects, allegory, and large scale works
Plein-air - painting in the outdoors to directly capture the effects of light and atmosphere on an object.
Realism - a movement in 19th century France that used the objective reality they experienced to create their works from and rejected classical subjects for an aesthetic of the people
Salon - a government sponsored exhibition of artworks held in Paris
School - a group of artists that share the same philosophy work around the same time, but not necessarily together
DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

GUIDED PRACTICE:
Art Project
The student will complete a composition that organizes the elements of design through guidelines provided by the principles of design.
These elements and principles of design will be incorporated into a work that incorporates historical themes and techniques of global art.
The student will use the process of reflection, revision, and refinement in developing a work of art
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
Students will create a composition that illuminates the use of the principles of design.
Students will use the principles of design to organize the elements of design in a composition
The works subject matter will incorporate universal themes identified in historical works
Students will use reflection, revision, and refinement in developing a work
