Weeks 1 & 2 (August): Pre-Unit Review/Building Classroom Community

Georgia Performance Standards
ASL2.IP2 Students demonstrate skills necessary to initiate, sustain and close exchanges in the target language.
Students will:
A. Initiate, participate in, and close an exchange.
B. Use simple paraphrasing to convey and comprehend messages (e.g., retelling, and create story from picture stimuli).
C. Use non-manual aspects of ASL to convey and comprehend messages (e.g., eye gaze, and role shifting).
D. Demonstrate SLPI Survival to Survival+ or ASLPI Level 1.0 to 2.0 Proficiency in target language exchanges.

Learning Target(s) related to the standard(s)
I can recall the signs and grammatical structures I learned in ASL 1 & 2 and use them correctly in signed conversations.


Success Criteria
I know I’ve got it when I can use ASL to engage in dialogues that include the following…
-TIME + TOPIC + COMMENT structure.
-Correct Non-Manual Markers for questions.
-Describing present people using correct order of signs
-Describe my living situation, family, daily routines, likes/dislikes, and schedule.
-LOPA (Location + Object + Person + Action) for commands

Activities:
Review the following concepts from ASL 1 & 2 (SN Units 1-6):
Giving/Following Commands, Category vocabulary, Age Numbers, Opposites, “Have, Like, Want, Need,” Same/Different, family relationships, counting 1-100, chores/duties, cultural behaviors- getting attention and negotiating a signing environment.

Engage in classroom dialogues using the above language structures/vocabulary.
