Daily Agenda:
Standard Addressed: Finding limits with and without technology
Learning Targets: I can find the limit of a piece-wise function; I can find a one-sided limit;
Success Criteria: I can use a graphing calculator to draw a graph. I can graph a piece-wise function.
Introduction/Connection: Put a function on the board and the ask the students to evaluate. The catch is you CANNOT. Look at the function graphically, and determine it in fact does have a value, sort of...what is going on LIMITS!
Direct Instruction: Daily 10; Go over any questions from the homework worksheet on limits w/calculator; Notes on one-sided limits and limits of piece-wise functions.Students work in pairs to complete a WS on one sided/piece-wise limits.
Guided Practice: We will work some of assigned problems on the board as needed during their pair/individual work.
Independent/Collaborative Practice/Differentiation: Students will help each other with the concept of finding a limit. Scaffolding throughout lesson. Rigor: Some students will choose to complete additional more difficult problems some involving real world application. Students will pair share their solutions and questions on the assignment. Teacher observes.
Summarizer/Check for Understanding: What are the graphical "problems" associated with limits?
Assignment: Pg 75 #5,6,17-23 odd (calc), 29-33 odd (calc), 38, 42-45,55-60 (calc); Finish WS
