Standard/s: MLI.IP1A Use basic greetings

Learning Target: I know that I have learned it when I can:
I can say hello and present myself in French
I can explain key reasons why I should study French.


Success Criteria:
I know vocabulary needed to present myself.
I know what French is and isn't.
I know why I want to learn French.


Introduction/Connection:
France24 News Broadcast- what do you think is happening, did you catch anything they said, what skills did you use?


DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Bonjours + names - oral presentations - we will go around the room introducing ourselves

What is French? (see attached powerpoint) - includes a 'pop quiz' and answers

*You will find a link to both our first powerpoint and our 1st day of school video below. If you are physically present in class, you do not need to watch it unless you want to review (I will cover all of this in class).

Why study French - we will brainstorm at least 20 great reasons, share our own reasons and hopefully convince you that it is worth our time and effort.

Intro: what does French sound like - the French Alphabet, common French names
