Show students p. 9 of Ch. 2 slideshow and ask them to take notes on the back of their family vocab page.
Show the Simpson’s family tree on p. 10 of Ch. 2 slideshow and make sure students know how to read a family tree. Then ask them to do the practice on slides 11-12 and write down their answers on their paper.
Pass out a notecard to each student. Give them about 5 minutes to fill out as many family members as they can using the template on slide 13. (Tip: I tell students if they have a huge family to just list the smaller side. If there is someone they don’t want to talk about, such as a grandparent that passed away, I tell them they don’t have to write that person down.)
Collect all the cards. Tell students they need to listen carefully to each person’s answer. Ask the first student a question and have him answer you in a complete sentence (Billy, ¿quién es Emma? - Emma es mi hermana. Example included on slide 13.) Then ask the next person in your pile the same question: Suzy, ¿quién es Emma?. She should answer Emma es la hermana de Billy. - Example also on slide 13 as you click through.) Then ask Suzy a question from her card and keep going until you get through the whole class. For a large class, split this up over 2 days to keep focus and interest.
