TOTY Spotlight: Taylor Sharpe

Throughout the month of September, we will be introducing you to the 2023-2024 Glynn County Teachers of the Year.

Taylor Sharpe was named Teacher of the Year at Glynn Academy. He has taught Algebra I with Support and Algebra I/9th grade for 10 years – the last eight of which at GA. Here are some awesome things you should know.

........................................................

Family: Wife Katie, son Wesley (6) and daughter Evan (4).

Who is your role model? My older brother has had a big influence on my life. He is 4 years older than me and did a lot for me growing up, showing and teaching me things along the way.

What book has most influenced you? Many books have influenced me across this journey. Can’t pick just one.

What is your greatest teaching memory? There is not a single greatest teaching memory. It is the reaction I get from students when they feel comfortable completing math problems. So many students struggle with math and I am a firm believer that most of those struggles come from prior bad experiences with math or math teachers.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto? They don’t care what you know till they know that you care.

What is a fact about you that most people don't know? I enjoy remodeling/working on our home. We have completely remodeled our home over the 10 years we have lived here.

Any hidden talents or hobbies? My favorite hobby is fishing with my son. I grew up fishing and have very fond memories. I enjoy creating memories with my son as we figure out how to saltwater fish.
