Nyrsha Patel has been selected as the Golden Rule student of the month for October!
I am proud to nominate Nyrsha for the Golden Rule Student of the Month because she consistently demonstrates what it means to consider others before herself. She is the kind of student who thinks beyond her own needs and ambitions, considering her classmates, her school, her community, and how her decisions may impact the people around her. I have watched her pass up opportunities that could have benefitted her personally because she recognized that pursuing them would come at a cost to someone else. What makes this especially meaningful is that she is an incredibly ambitious and driven student. Her willingness to put others first does not come from a lack of personal goals, but from a strong sense of character and a belief that her own success should not come at the expense of others.
I saw this quality firsthand when she participated as a tutor in a peer tutoring program I oversee. She made it a priority to meet with her student in person each week, consistently making time in her own busy schedule to support him. More importantly, she quickly became invested in far more than helping him succeed academically. She cared about his confidence, his well being, and his success as a person. She approached tutoring not simply as an obligation to fulfill, but as a commitment she had made to another student.
She is also a strong advocate for fairness and justice, but what stands out most is that these values are evident in her everyday actions. She does not simply talk about treating people well; she consistently makes choices that demonstrate empathy, fairness, and respect for others. She understands that character is often revealed in the moments when doing what is right requires giving something up yourself. Her compassion, integrity, and genuine concern for others make her an exceptional example of the Golden Rule and an incredibly deserving recipient of this recognition.
