Teacher : K. Kudyk/C. Payne

Course/ Subject: Geometry with Support

Date of Instruction:  03-31-21

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standard/s:

MGSE9-12.G.GPE.1 Derive the equation of a circle of given center and radius using the Pythagorean Theorem; complete the square to find the center and radius of a circle given by an equation.

MGSE9-12.G.GPE.4 Use coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems algebraically. For example, prove or disprove that a figure defined by four given points in the coordinate plane is a rectangle; prove or disprove that the point (1, √3) lies on the circle centered at the origin and containing the point (0,2). (Focus on quadrilaterals, right triangles, and circles.)

Learning Target:

Students will be able to write the equation of a circle.

Students will be able to graph a circle.

Students will be able to determine whether or not a point lies on a circle, given an equation.

Students will use the distance formula to prove given points are on a circle in the coordinate plane.

Success Criteria:

I can write the equation of a circle given the center and the radius.

I can find the center, radius, and diameter given an equation.

I can graph a circle given the center and the radius or diameter.

I can determine whether or not a point lies on a circle by evaluating the equation of the circle.

I can convert between graphing and standard form of a circle by completing the square.

I can use the distance formula to find the length of a radius.

I can use the distance formula to prove a give point is on a given circle.
