NATURALLY UNIT 2, LESSON 2: CARDINAL NUMBERS 16-20

GEORGIA PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

ASL1.INT2 Students will comprehend signed and non-manual markers to understand simple messages in the target language. Students will: 

A. Differentiate among statements, questions, and commands (e.g., yes/no, WH, rhetorical questions, commands). 

B. Recognize basic non-manual markers (e.g., facial grammar, mouth phonemes/morphemes). 

ASL1.IP1 Students exchange simple information in the target language, utilizing cultural references where appropriate. Students will: Ask questions and provide responses based suggested topics (e.g., yes/no and wh- questions). 

LEARNING TARGETS:

I will sign cardinal numbers 16-19. 

I will ask “how many” questions.

I will sign the vocabulary concepts “have” and “plus”


SUCCESS CRITERIA:
I know I’ve got it when:

I can count in ASL from 1-19 fluently.

I can answer basic addition and counting questions in ASL.


TODAY'S AGENDA:
Daily 10: “What Would You Do” Episode Clip: Deaf Discrimination- Watch/answer questions in class.

Introduction of Cardinal Numbers 16-19 (teacher modeling)

DVD practice: Numbers 16-19, Counting 1-19 

DVD practice w/Handout- Circle the Number & Write the number- check answers

Discussion: Signing variations of 16-19 (regional differences)


Whole Group- Guided Practice: “How-Many” Questions

Signer A: Ask how many

(name item- IX-mult. “point to items”) HOW-MANY

Signer B: Give a number 


Small Group Practice Activity

Work in groups of 3. 

Take turns asking each other HOW-MANY questions.


ADDED PRACTICE WITH NUMBERS

Teacher asks each student a math question. Students give correct response.

Example:

5 PLUS 6, HOW-MANY?
