Lesson 9: Identifying People

Standards

ASL1.IP1 Students exchange simple information in the target language, utilizing cultural references where appropriate. Students will:

G. Give simple descriptions (e.g., introduction to size and shape specifiers, classifiers, adjectives).

Introducing: Identifying People who are present- Steps (notetaking)

DVD demonstration: Identifying People: Signer 1 identifies a person and Signer 2 glances and confirms the person being referred to by adding to the description.

Teacher modeling- The Classroom- Identifying people by gender, appearance, body positions, and actions. 

Pairs Practice: Exercise 2:3 “Identify Others”- Classroom A/B- student workbook p. 378-379 (handout)

DVD demonstration- Conversation 3

Vocabulary Intro (see video link in Google classroom) 

Independent practice:  DVD 2.9- Mini-Dialogues 1-3 DVD practice- Tidbits- Identify and write the features for each person whose description is signed on the DVD clip. (Answers reviewed in class)

Summarize/Share

Guess Who? Game- Name sticks are drawn. Students take turns at front signing descriptions of classmates using gender, appearance, body position, and actions.  Classmates must guess who is being described. All students must participate when their names are chosen.
