Learning Target:

I can find the determinant of a matrix.

I can Find the inverse of a 2 x 2 matrix if possible.

Success Criteria:

  • I can state the dimensions of a matrix.

  • I can use the determinant formula to find the determinant of a 2 x 2 and a 3 x 3 matrix.

  • I can find the inverse of a 2 x 2 matrix by hand.

Introduction/Connection: 

Do now  -SAT/ACT Practice- students will answer multiple choice questions written in the SAT or ACT style – posted in Google Classroom


DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Matrices and Determinants PowerPoint – located in Google Classroom

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Determinants and Inverse Practice Problems – Smartboard

  Students will discuss steps to find the inverse and determinant of given matrices.  We will collectively find the solution to practice problems. (problems will be available in Google Classroom)


INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will independently complete “The inverse of a Matrix” worksheet located on Google Classroom and report answers by taking a picture and posting to Google Classroom

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding.

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Using the Inverse of a Matrix worksheet we will check the first problem in each section.
