Teacher : Holly Carter

Course/ Subject: Pre-Calculus – Graphing Trig Functions

Date of Instruction: 1-31-22

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standards:

MGSE9-12.F.IF.4

MGSE9-12.F.IF.7

MGSE9-12.F.IF.7e

MGSE9-12.F.TF.4

MGSE9-12.F.TF.5

MGSE9-12.F.TF.6

 Learning Target:

I can write the equation of a trigonometric function given its graph.

Success Criteria:

I can find the amplitude.

I can find the period.

I can find the phase shift

I can find the vertical shift.

I can find 5 critical points for on cycle.

I can a,b,c,d from the graph.

Introduction/Connection:

Do now  -SAT/ACT Practice- students will answer multiple choice questions written in the SAT or ACT style – posted in Google Classroom

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

I will demonstrate how to identify the amplitude, period, phase shift and vertical shift from a graph.  We will discuss how the sign of the leading coefficient changes the graph.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:

We will work several examples together.  Students will use practice problems given to them to show their level of understanding.

We will discuss the previous night’s homework and answer any questions about the graphs. Students will use the amplitude and period worksheet to determine the amplitude and period of a graph.  We will work together to write the equations of the graphs on the back of the worksheet.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will complete Writing the equations worksheet located on Google Classroom.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding.

TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

We will check the equations of the graphs.
