Pre-Unit: Intro to ASL 1
Standards Addressed
ASL1.CCC5: Students identify situations and resources in which the target language skills (ASL) and cultural knowledge may be applied beyond the classroom setting for recreational, educational, and occupational purposes.
Learning Targets
Students will be able to:
Explain the classroom rules & procedures for ASL this semester.
List at least five reasons why learning ASL is beneficial to them.

Direct Instruction
Intro to ASL PowerPoint- Getting to know Mrs. Baker
Go over class syllabus/policies/rules- Students draw a slip with a question about policies and teacher draws #, student reads question, teacher answers, class discusses.
Guided Practice
Deaf Culture Awareness pre-test (students will complete independently)
Differentiation
After completing pre-test, students will work in groups of 2-3 to go over/change/discuss answers before turning their papers in.
Assessment Strategy
Pre-test will be scored by peers and returned to students before end of class. (Answers to be discussed tomorrow).

Ticket out the door- list three reasons why you are taking ASL and what you hope to learn this semester in class.
