Standard Addressed: Prerequisite skills to AP Calculus including but not limited to: finding common denominators, factoring, simplifying exponents, log laws, writing the equations of lines, finding inverses and domain/range.
Learning Targets: I can use Algebra to simplify expressions; I can write the equations of lines; I can determine domain and range of a function.
Success Criteria: I can simplify rational expressions. I can factor polynomials. I can find a common denominator. I can write the equations of lines. I can evaluate trig ratios.
Introduction/Connection: Review of syllabus, rules and expectations. Ask students what they think the study of Calculus may entail? Ask the students what skills they think are required to be successful in Calculus?
Direct Instruction: Daily 10; Review Syllabus; Direct instruction on prerequisite skills for AP Calculus.
Guided Practice: We will work some of assigned problems on the board as needed during their pair/individual work.
Independent/Collaborative Practice/Differentiation: Students will work together or individually to complete assigned problems. Scaffolding throughout lesson. Rigor: Some students will choose to complete additional more difficult problems some involving real world application.
Summarizer/Check for Understanding: What do you need to brush up on in terms of prerequisite skills?
Assignment: Finish assigned problems from worksheet and GC activity.
