The Altamaha Area Cross Country Team, Coach of the Year, and Academic Team was established in 2018 by the collective of coaches in the counties that border the Altamaha River.  The idea behind the establishment of the Altamaha Area Cross Country awards is to recognize the athletes and coaches for their hard work throughout the cross-country season.  Similar to that of the All-Metro team that is sponsored by the Atlanta Track Club.

A simple mathematical comparison was developed to help select individuals and coaches for their honors.  The current system of mathematical comparison can be changed or adapted by the collective of coaches if desired.  A vote must be held to change the guidelines to the selection process with a 70% approval of all the coaches in the Altamaha Area eligible schools.

There are 15 eligible schools from 11 counties, which include: Telfair Co. HS, Montgomery Co. HS, Vidalia HS, Vidalia Heritage Academy, Toombs Co. HS, Tattnall Co. HS, Long Co. HS, McIntosh County Academy, Brunswick, Glynn Academy, Frederica Academy, Heritage Christian Academy, Wayne Co. HS, Appling Co. HS, Jeff Davis Co. HS, and Wheeler Co. HS.

*** Counties/schools that border the Altamaha River to the north and south plus Telfair County and Wheeler County which are between the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers which serve as the headwaters for the Altamaha River.
